The right kind of lighting makes it easier to see and work. In workspaces, lighting is implemented primarily for the people who work and function in the workspace. Therefore, efficiency and cost criteria as well as aesthetic solutions should always be considered against visual ergonomic requirements. Work areas and workstations must be adequately lit. This does not conflict with aesthetic goals, as ergonomic goals also include an aesthetic perspective. The ergonomic goal of lighting is:
- Gives enough light to do work tasks
- Make objects that pose a safety risk easily identifiable
- Parse space
- Direct attention and movement
- Maintain alertness
- Forms an aesthetically pleasing whole with the environment
